Kabul wants enhanced ties with Islamabad: Abdullah

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah has said that Kabul wanted to enhance and strengthen bilateral relationship with Pakistan.

He said that the National Unity Government (NUG) had initiated a number of steps to improve ties with Pakistan.

He expressed these views while addressing the National Day Reception of Pakistan, held at Pakistan Embassy in Kabul on the other day. Abdullah greeted the government and people of Pakistan on behalf of the President Ashraf Ghani and the people of Afghanistan.

Abdullah said that terrorism was the common enemy of both the countries and it was essential to take steps for the elimination of the menace by the two countries. He said that Afghanistan wanted to maintain peaceful and cordial relationship with its neighbors.

Pakistan’s ambassador to Afghanistan, Syed Abrar Hussain, also spoke on the occasion and reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to continue efforts for the promotion of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

He said that a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan was not only in the interest of Pakistan but also of the entire region. The ambassador said that Pakistan was committed to expand and improve its relationship with Afghanistan in all fields. He also highlighted Pakistan’s contribution in the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan. He said that Pakistan would continue its role in the socio-economic development of Afghanistan.

The CEO’s two deputies, former Jihadi leaders including Pir Sayid Ahmad Gilani, Masoom Stanekzai, secretary of High Peace Council (HPC), Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, former commerce minister, political figures including Ahmad Wali Masood, Mir Wais Yasini, Juma Khan Hamdard and a number of senators and lawmakers attended the ceremony.
