KABUL: The second day of the Eid-al-fitr that is also the second of three-day ceasefire between the government and Taliban was followed with violence across the country.
On Friday afternoon, a deadly blast claimed the lives of 12 civilians including the Imam of mosque and wounded over 20 others.
A spokesman for the ministry of interior, Hamid Roshan said that the incident occurred in Qala-e-Murad village of Shakardara district. The explosive was placed inside the mosque.
Some of the wounded are in a severe health condition, said a source, talking on condition of anonymity. No militant group, including the Taliban asserted the responsibly for the attack.
But the Taliban spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid claimed that the government forces tried to enter the areas that were under the Taliban controlled.
The spokesman for the ministry of defense, Rohullah Ahmadzai accused the militants of violating the ceasefire. “The groups which are under the Taliban umbrella, but claim themselves segregated from Taliban, committed violation of ceasefire,” he said. “But the security forces defend their people against the insurgents.”
The Taliban have instructed their fighters to observe a ceasefire during the three-day holidays of Eid-al-fitr. The Afghan President Ashraf Ghani announced a ceasefire in response and called on the insurgents to agree on a permanent ceasefire.
The Afghan citizens who have witnessed the relentless violence for decades have warmly welcomed the truce. “We hope the two sides agree on an enduring and permanent ceasefire,” said, a resident of Kabul, Nasrat.
A range of roadside bombs occurred in the first day of Eid. Seven civilians were killed in the southern province of Kandahar. Two civilians were killed and 14 others wounded in a similar incident the northern province of Kunduz. A roadside bomb claimed the lives of two civilians in the central province of Ghazni. The attacks remained unclaimed.
