KABUL: The parliament called for end to the week-long chaos in the northern province of Faryab. The tension rose in Faryab after the government appointed Mohammad Daud Laghmani as provincial governor.
Laghmani replaced Naqibullah Faiq, who has recently been appointed as senator and granted with a medal by the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to end the chaos.
Faiq was one of the favorites of Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum who holds a great number of followers in the province. Dostum in a phone message orders his followers to shoot the new governor “on front head”.
On Wednesday, speaker of the lower house of the parliament, Mir Rahman Rahmani expressed concerns on the prolonging tensions and brawls erupted between the government and residents.
“The people of Afghanistan must learn a lesson from the four decades of war, poverty and migration and put an end tothe ongoing crisis with unity and solidarity,” he added.
Rahmani called on the political leaders behind the protests to prefer national interests rather than their personal interests.
This comes as the new governor was introduced in a military compound as the protestors shut the office and blocked the streets of Maymana, the provincial capital city.
Photos leaked to the media shows tens of armed people among the protestors who oppose the new governor. The armed men are said to belong to a political party, Junbish-e-Islami, led by Dostum.
