KABUL: The list of government’s high council has been prepared by the government, but some powerful politicians including Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Abdul Rashid Dostum and Salahuddin Rabbani have still objections.
Sources close to government said Saturday that 14-member council’s draft was prepared after several days of consultations with jiahdi leaders and political figures.
The list shows names of 18 people consisting of former jihadi leaders, former and current government officials as well as political figures. Four women are included the council.
President Ashraf Ghani, his deputies Amrullah Saleh and Sarwar Danesh, Abdullah Abdullah, Hamid Karzai, Mohammad Karim Khalili, Mohammad Mohaqiq, Abdul Rashid Dostum, Abdul Rasoul Sayyaf, Salahuddin Rabbani. Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Atta Noor, Mir Rahman Rahmani, Fazl Hadi Muslimyar, Fatema Gilani, Habiba Sarabi, Hasina Safi and Fawzia Koofi are the members of the council.
“These are the figures who have been in this circle and have not been replaced in the past 20 years. I don’t think these figures have any initiatives to help the government stand on its own feet,” Sayed Ishaq Gilani, leader of Movement for National Solidarity, a political party said.
Hekmatyar, another politician opposes a council with more than 10 members.
“If the government’s high council is just symbolic without decision making authority, Marshal Dostum and other leaders will not attend its sessions,” said Babor Farahmand, Dostum’s aide.
President Ghani’s office says the council’s list was not finalized.
“The high government council shares necessary consultations in higher level and make decisions,” Ghani’s spokesman Latif Mahmoud said.
