KABUL: At least three children were killed after mortar shelling targeted the residences in northern Takhar and Southern Helmand provinces, officials said on Saturday.
Takhar Police’s spokesman, Abdul Khalil Asir said that the mortar firing hit a house in Shas Metra area located alongside the Kunduz-Takhar highway. According to him, two other members of the family including a woman were wounded in the incident. He blamed Taliban for carrying out the attack.
A source, who was talking on condition of anonymity, said that two children were killed in a similar attack in the sourer province of Helmand. Two other civilians were wounded in the incident that occurred in provincial capital, Lashkargah.
The civilians have recently suffered a significant number of casualties as violence lingers nationwide with the Taliban denying to agree on a ceasefire. This week, a roadside bomb blast claimed the precious lives of nine civilians in Helmand. The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission in a statement called for an end to the civilians casualties.
