KABUL: At least 280 civilians were killed during one last month of violence, said a human watchdog organization on Wednesday, expressing concerns over rise in casualties on civilians.
The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission said in its monthly report that around 634 civilians were wounded in this month. A spokesman for the commission, Zabihullah Farhang said that the death included 109 children.
“We believe that the tally is high,” he added. The commission urged the government and Taliban to put the peace negotiations on priority and that “a permanent ceasefire was the wish of all Afghans.”
The commission called on the United Nations and International Community to play their “legal responsibility” in ending war and supporting human rights in Afghanistan. Farhang said that the main victims of the ongoing violence are the civilians.
As the U.S. and NATO are exiting, the Taliban and government have intensified offensive that also that rocked the country with causing a sharp surge in violence countrywide. The Afghan peace negotiations are currently stalled with the two sides claiming military victory on each others.

The UN Assistant Mission in Afghanistan this week voiced frustration over the increase in civilians’ casualties in the country. The UNAMA said that civilians suffered casualties in clashes erupting between the Taliban and Afghan security forces in various parts of the country.
