AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Tens of Kabul residents protested against recruitment of Afghan refugees as mercenaries by Iran to use them in proxy wars in the Middle East.
The protestors said that Tehran is taking advantage of Afghan refugees’ miseries.
The protest was organized by Musharekt-e-Melli party. The protestors accused Iran of forcing Afghan refugees to join its proxy wars in the Middle East. They also criticized Tehran for mistreating Afghan prisoners.
The protestors were chanting slogans against Iran. To give vent to their anger, the protestors gathered in front of Shahr-e-Now Park and marched to Iran embassy.
Head of the party, Najibullah Kabuli, said that 350 Afghans have been killed in wars in the Middle East, whose dead bodies are missing. “Iran takes advantage of Afghan refugees’ miseries and recruit them as mercenaries to use them in its proxy wars in the Middle East,” he added.
Reports had previously surfaced in media that the Iranian government was recruiting Afghan refugees to fight alongside Bashar al-Assad’s forces in Syria.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said that it has investigated the issue and hasn’t found any evidence to prove these allegations.
Siraj-ul-Haq Siraj, a spokesman for the MoFA, told Azadi Radio that if the allegations hold weigh, then this act of Iran is in sharp contrast with international refugee law and we condemn it.
