KABUL: In the wake of foreign troop withdrawal, the Taliban has intensified violence rather than to engage in a meaningful negotiation, said President Ghani’s Senior Advisor Wahid Omar.
Mr. Omar who is also Director General of Office of Public and Strategic Affairs Wahid Omar made the statement on Tuesday during a press conference to introduce a spokesman for the security sector.
“Since the announcement of the foreign troop withdrawal, the Taliban did not show willingness for a meaningful presence on the table of negotiation, rather it has intensified violence in the past months,” Mr. Omar said.
Taliban launched offensives on different parts of Afghanistan and torched districts, compounds, schools, clinics and destroyed public institutions, Mr. Omar said, adding, “Taliban once again showed their dark face to the people.”
The Taliban war has no legitimacy and the group has no justification to continue this fighting, Mr. Omar asked.
Pointing to the ongoing conflict, he said that the concerns are conceivable, but the Taliban remnants won’t be durable in any district.
Hinting at some negative propaganda in the social media, Mr. Omar called on the people to not create fears among the people through spreading misinformation.
This comes at a time when several districts had fallen to the Taliban in the past one month in different provinces across the country and severe clashes ongoing between the Afghan security forces and the Taliban insurgents.
Some districts in the Northern provinces have been retaken by the Afghan security forces and the clearing operations are underway.
