KABUL: The Taliban claims to have captured five districts across Afghanistan but the government officials denied it, expressing ambiguity over the collapse of the districts.
The insurgents’ spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid said that Chak and Sayedabad districts of central Wadak fall to them. At least 39 Afghan security forces surrendered to their fighters, he said, adding that an intelligence department was captured as well.
A resident of Chak district, Rahmatullah told Pajhwok that the districts overrun by the Taliban on Saturday night. “No one has been killed. All people in the districts surrendered to the Taliban. It is just a rumor that the intelligence manager committed suicide,” he added.
Mujahid also claimed that the militants have taken control of Feroznakhchir district of Samangan and Rostaq districts of Takhar. But Takhar Governor’s spokesman, Hamid Mubariz rejected the collapse of the district, saying that severe clashes have been erupted between the security forces and militants.
Samangan Governor, Daud Kalakani also turned down the claims of Feroznakhchir district’s collapse to the Taliban. He said that the Security Forces pushed the militants’ attack back. According to him, three security forces were killed and four others wounded. He put the number of militants’ fatalities to seven people including their commander Qari Abdul Rahman.
Mujahid said that the militants overrun Shortapa district of northern Balkh province. Provincial Police Chief, Daud Tarakhil said that he didn’t have information regarding the collapse of the district.
