KABUL: Three civilians including children were killed and six others wounded after a mortar shelling targeted a residence in the northern province of Baghlan.
The incident occurred on Friday night in Dand-e-Ghori district of the province, residents claimed, adding that the mortar hit house of a family who has recently returned to from Sangcharak district of Sar-e-Pul province.
A member of the family, who wished to go unnamed, said that they were “worshiping while a mortar hit our house”. He lost his two daughters and a son in the incident.
A spokesman for the provincial public health department, Abdullah Malang said that they have received nine people from Dand-e-Ghori district.
He confirmed the death of three civilians and six wounded. The dead included two girls and a toddler.
Earlier, a mortar shelling hit a residence in Hussin Khil area of Pull-e-Khumri, the capital city of Baghlan. The incident left one child dead and three others wounded.
This comes as 19 watchdog groups called for justice and accountability of the civilians’ casualties.
