KABUL: The Taliban have purportedly captured several districts amid severe offensives raging across the country.
However, the ministry of defense said that it recaptured Baharak district of the northern Badakhshan province. A spokesman for the ministry of defense, Fawad Aman said that the security forces inflicted heavy casualties on the militants in Badakhshan.
But local sources quoted by Pajhwok said that the insurgents overrun Baharak, Kohistan and Kofan districts of the province. “The Taliban- without fighting- captured Kohistan and Kofab districts and security forces conducted a retreatment,” the source quoted by Pajhwok as saying.
Residents of Baharak district said that the Taliban staged attacks on the districts from various directions and that the district collapsed on Sunday late morning.
The Taliban spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid claimed that their fighters have overrun Yawan, Shuhada, Tishkan, Tagab, Darayim, Shahar-e-Buzorg, Yaftal Payan, Koofab, Kohistan, Wardoj, Yamgan, Jurom and Baharak districts of Badakhshan within one last week. The group, about two weeks ago, captured Khash and Arghanjkhwa districts of the province.
The militants’ spokesman also claimed of capturing Panjwayee district of southern Kandahar and Ziro district of southeastern Paktika province.
