AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The 50-day Zulfiqar military operation which was launched in Sangin district of southern Helmand province ended on Wednesday, leaving hundreds of militants dead, security officials said.
Afghan National Army (ANA) commander, Abdul Khaliq, told newsmen in Sangin district that the Zulfiqar operation resulted in killing of at least 418 rebels.
He added that 93 security personnel and seven civilians were killed during the operation.
The Zulfiqar military operation was launched two months back aimed at clear villages of insurgents. Zulfiqar was the first independent military operation carried out after the end of combat mission of the international troops.
The Taliban militant group is yet to comment about the casualties.
