AT-KABUL: An Afghan army soldier opened fire on American troops in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday killing one NATO service member, said Nangarhar police chief.
Fazel Ahmad Sherzad said that NATO troops in retaliation killed the assailant and wounded two Afghan officers. He added that the incident took place in the provincial governor office building on Wednesday.
“The US troops had come to the province to attend a session between governors of eastern provinces and an official in the US embassy in Afghanistan,” Sherzad said, adding the incident took place at the end of the meeting.
The NATO-led resolute support mission confirmed the death of one of its service members in Jalalababad incident; however, it did not disclose nationality of the soldier.
Zubair Seddiqi, a person who claims to be a spokesman for Hezb-e-Islami, told media that the assailant was their man.
