AT-KABUL: Commerce Minister of Pakistan Khurram Dastgir Khan called on the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdulllah on Wednesday, discussing different mutual issues including Kabul-Islamabad trade ties and utilizing the current opportunities for boosting commerce relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, Dastgir said there are several opportunities for investment and trade in the two countries which should be used thoroughly. He said his country wants to expand its trade relations with the Central Asia and then with Europe, and this will be possible when peace and stability is ensured in Afghanistan. “This will help Pakistan to enhance its trade relations with Afghanistan and cooperate with the country in other fields as well, including security,” he added.
He said the TAPI pipeline project has reached its final stage which will provide more investment and trade opportunities for the two countries.
He suggested establishment of a joint exhibition of Afghan and Pakistani products, and said they were ready for any kind of cooperation in this regard aimed at expansion of ties in this field.
Abdullah Abdullah termed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa delegation’s trip to Kabul as vital for strengthening Kabul-Islamabad ties, and said it is required for both the countries to use joint economic opportunities while considering their national interests.
He said that healthy economic and trade relations will not only create opportunities in the two countries but also it will have positive impacts on improvement of trade in South Asia and Central Asia. “Currently, a better ground has been provided for investment and trade in the two countries, and it should be used comprehensively,” he added.
Hinting at concrete measures of the Afghan government to improve the country’s economy and trade activities, he said political will in Pakistan is needed for boosting trade ties between the two countries.
