KABUL: The UN special envoy for Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons met with the third deputy of Prime Minister, Mullah Abdul Kabir to “convey deepening concern about the well-being of ‘disappeared’ women activists,” UNAMA said on Sunday.
At least four women’s rights activists have gone missing in nearly one last month.
According to the UNAMA, Kabir committed to “seek answers”.
“We appreciate this and await an update. World support to Afghanistan is eroded without respect for all Afghan’s rights,” the UNAMA said.
Following the UN’s special envoy meeting with Kabir, Germany in Afghanistan while citing the UNAMA’s tweet, said that it “share the concerns of” Lyons as well as the Afghans in Afghanistan and around the world for these brave women who disappeared after making use of their right to freedom of speech.
“An investigation and answers regarding their whereabouts and wellbeing are urgently needed,” Germany in Afghanistan said.
A spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, Inamullah Samangani also confirmed the meeting between UN’s Lyons and Mullah Kabir.
The UN envoy “appreciated the Islamic Emirate’s cooperation with the UN organization in Afghanistan,” Samangani said. “… she called for assistance of the Islamic Emirate about the fate of the missing women, so they can join back their families.”
According to Samangani, the European Union would provide 50 million euros as part of humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
