KABUL: Five districts in the southeastern province of Paktika lacked high schools and therefore there has been no high school graduator in the past 20-years there, tribal elders said.
They termed lack of financial support to the education system in Paktika as the reason that thousands of youths have been deprived of education.
The residents said that the families with good economic status send their children to the provincial capital city of Sharana to continue their lessons but families with deteriorated economic condition are unable to do so.
The districts are Worombai, Tarwi, Dila Khoshamand, Naka and Barmal, where the education system was not properly active due to security tensions during the former Afghan governments.
“No school has been constructed in our district. Our youth migrated to other countries,” said Zahid, a student in Barmal district.
Thousands of the people have been killed and maimed during the past 20-years of conflict in Afghanistan. Afghan youths in many parts of the country lacked access to education.
“We don’t have any high school graduates in far areas and some districts of Paktika. We call on the Islamic Emirate officials to construct schools for us,” said Abdul Rahim, a tribal elder in Khoshamand.
The provincial education department confirmed the issue, saying that there were no high school graduations in the past 20 years in these districts.
