KABUL: Kofiyah, a teenager who has survived an airstrike in Sangin district of southern Helmand province, but lost her 14 members of the family in the same incident—is suffering from its aftermath.
Kofiyah was the only member of the family who succeeded the airstrike alive.
Her wounds from the bombing were so severe that not only did her limbs fail to grow, according to relatives, but also she lost her mental balance.
“She is a mature girl, but she has lost her consciousness and is mentally unwell,” said Gul Mohammad, Kofiyah’s uncle.
“Fourteen people were martyred in this place and two of my brothers were martyred in the operation,” said Jan Agha, Kofiyah’s uncle.
Kofiyah is being taken care of by her grandfather. The grandfather said despite passing many years, she still feels the pain.
“I picked her up From the ruins, since then two of my young sons were martyred,” said Abdul Hamid, her grandfather.
Sangin district of Helmand was once a hotspot among the war parties.
