KABUL: The price of food materials remains high despite the dollar has recently dropped in exchange for Afghan currency at the country’s market.
With the Islamic Emirate swept into power, the US department of treasury has frozen over $9 billion of Afghanistan’s central bank assets which also significantly affected the value of the Afs in exchange for dollar.
The price of one dollar was less than 86 Afs on Sunday at Kabul markets.
But the drop of dollar value has yet to reduce the price of essential commodities – this issue also causee a public outcry.
The residents of Kabul province called on the Islamic Emirate to counter the current crisis of high price of food.
“The unemployment has increased. Although the dollar dropped the prices are still high,” said Deen Mohammad, a resident of Kabul.
Around three months ago, when one dollar was being exchanged for 105 Afs, the prices of food materials were as :
One sack of flour (2,400 Afs)
One bag of rice (2,700 Afs)
16 liters of oil (2,800 Afs).
Meanwhile, on Sunday the prices of these materials were as:
One sack of flour (2,100 Afs)
One sack of rice (2,500 Afs)
16 liters of oil (2,420 Afs)
