Terrorists have never been powerful: Sediqi

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Following deadly incident in Nangarhar province for which the self-proclaimed ISIS militants claimed responsibility, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Sunday said such incidents unite the people against insurgents more than any other time in the past.

The MoI spokesman, Sediq Seddiqi, said Afghans will combat against Daesh militants with more power than the past. “Terrorists have never been powerful; neither now nor in the past. They have been weak wherever they operate. The people of Afghanistan have shown strong resolve against terrorists in past 13 years. Our voice is up against them anytime,” he said. He added that the 30 million population of Afghanistan will fight against the terrorist groups and will save the country from them.

More than 33 people were killed and above 120 others were wounded in a bomb blast in Jalalabad city on Saturday.

Nicholas Haysom, the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Representative and head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has said that the Afghan government should start investigation about presence of Daesh in Afghanistan. “We are yet to know that whether presence of Daesh will increase violation of human rights in Afghanistan. There are different reports about existence of the militant group. One calls it a phenomenon while the other terms it a terrorist group which has changed its flag and outfits. All these issues need investigation,” he added.

In the meantime, Jawid Kohistani, an analyst in security affairs, said the government should take reports on ISIS militants serious. He said Kabul should change its policy towards Islamabad if it wants to fight against the terrorist group.

He was quoted by Radio Azadi as saying that the enemy is equipped and supported—technically and financially—from the geography of Pakistan. “The financial assistance for militants is transferred to Pakistan from Gulf States. Islamabad should be serious in this regard,” he said.

Recently, a number of videos were released on social media which showed some unknown armed men, proclaiming that are linked with ISIS.

Other critics believe that the men which claim to have links with ISIS are the Taliban militants who are against peace negotiations with the Afghan government and are eager to continue war in Afghanistan by the support of a number of foreign countries.
