AT-KABUL: The captain of the national cricket team, Mohammad Nabi Isakhil, is scheduled to formally resign from his post today (Monday).
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) spokesman, Mohammad Farid Hotak, said Nabi will announce his resignation at a press conference today (Monday).
He said that Nabi has written to the ACB that given the recent performance of the team and particularly his out of form status, he would like to request the board to accept his resignation as a captain and allow him to continue to play as a team player.
According to the spokesman, Nabi will sincerely provide and share his experience with the new captain. He said that Nabi served in the national squad as a captain for more than two years.
Nabi in his statement has said that he tried his best to bring victories to the nation and he was proud that the national team played in the 2015 cricket World Cup under his captaincy.
Nabi said that he would like to thank the ACB, his colleagues and fans inside and outside the country who supported him all the time.
