AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The second Vice President, Sarwar Danish, termed high illiteracy rate a serious problem.
While addressing a reading and writing session, Danish said that thought the government had great achievements in education sector over the past years, still 65 percent of people are illiterate. He said more efforts were required to reduce illiteracy.
In the meantime, officials in the Ministry of Education said that fight against illiteracy is in their top priority.
Shafiq Samim, the acting Minister of Education, said that the ministry is committed to reduce illiteracy and improve the quality of education across the country.
It is worth mentioning that after that the Taliban were toppled in 2001, Afghanistan made tangible achievements in almost all areas, particularly education sector. Millions of children are currently going to schools.
