KABUL: Qatar has reiterated its deep concern about the suspension of studies in secondary schools for girls, stressing that these negative practices will have a significant impact on human rights, development and the economy in Afghanistan.
This was stated by Qatar’s Charge d’Affairs of the Permanent Delegation in Geneva Jawhara Al Suwaidi, before the 50th Human Rights Council, during the Urgent Debate on the Situation of Human Rights for Women and Girls in Afghanistan.
Worried over exacerbating situation of women and girls, she affirmed Qatar’s keenness to enhance the active participation of Afghan women in the peacemaking and building process.
Al Suwaidi said that Qatar will continue to coordinate closely with partners to enable the Afghan people to address all humanitarian, economic and social challenges, preserve the gains made, and achieve security, peace, stability and development in Afghanistan and in the region.
In its statement, Qatar stressed that making further progress in Afghanistan also requires taking effective and urgent measures to mitigate the humanitarian impact of the existing crisis on all segments of society, especially on women, girls and children, as well as continuing efforts to reach a comprehensive national reconciliation.
