Kabul: The US Special Representative for Women and Human Rights stated that the arguments of the interim Taliban government for banning girls’ education on the pretext of Afghan culture are not acceptable.
Rina Amiri, the US special representative for women and human rights, after attending the Tashkent conference on Afghanistan, said: security and economic stability and peace without protecting women’s rights, ending abuse against all ethnic and religious communities and the strengthening of an inclusive political process will not be achieved.
She added that in this conference, I disagreed with the Taliban interim government’s claim that banning girls’ education is based on Afghan culture and argued that most Afghans want education, work and opportunities for a better future for their sons and daughters.
Tashkent Conference on Afghanistan started on July 26 in the capital of Uzbekistan for three days and officials from more than 20 countries participated in the conference, including the US, and international organizations.
