AT Kabul: Three senior commanders of the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have been killed in a blast in southeastern Afghanistan.
According to Pakistani media quoting Pakistani officials and militant sources. Omar Khalid Khorasani, Abdul Wali Mohmand, , The other two were identified as Hafiz Dawlat and Mufti Hassan were killed while their car hit a roadside mine in the Barmal district of the south-eastern province of Paktika. According to reports Abdul Wali Mohmand also had a $3 million bounty on his head.
Sources say that Khorasani belonged to Pakistan’s Mohmand tribal district and was said to be in charge of the Mohmand branch of the Pakistani Taliban. Some TTP circles consider Hassan to have been responsible for inciting infighting in the TTP a few years ago.
The news comes at a time when Pakistani authorities are in contact with the militant group’s leadership to discuss a peace agreement. A truce has already been in place between the TTP and the Pakistani military for the past two months.
The current peace talks between TTP and the government of Pakistan have stopped after the group refused to back down from its demand that the merger of the (FATA) with Khyber pakhtunkhwa be reversed. The Afghan Taliban requested the negotiations, which resulted one month cease fire in November.
