Kabul: The families of the victims of September 11 attacks demanded the release of Afghanistan’s foreign exchange reserves
The families of the survivors of the September 11 incident, in response to decision of the Biden administration to confiscate half of the assets of Afghanistan for their benefit, called this action immoral and demanded the release of this money for the benefit of the people of Afghanistan.
According to media nearly 80 family members of the survivors of the September 11th incident asked US President Joe Biden to cancel his executive order to confiscate half of the seized assets of the Afghan people for the benefit of the families of the September 11th survivors, and returned this money to Afghanistan.
According to “Politico”, these families wrote in a letter addressed to Biden: “Any use of $7 billion to compensate family members of 9/11 is legally questionable and morally wrong.” Order and confirm that the funds of the Central Bank of Afghanistan belong to the people of Afghanistan and they need this money much more than we do.
In the continuation of this letter, it is stated that none of them have the right to receive the money that legally belongs to the people of Afghanistan, and none of them have joined these lawsuits to get money from the people of Afghanistan in crisis.
Despite this, there is no consensus among the families of the victims of the September 11 incident about the confiscation of half of the assets of the Afghan people in their favor, some of them want to receive this money and say that the Afghans after the defeat in the fight against the Taliban and their return to power they lost the right to receive this money.
Politico added that Biden’s executive order has led to an ugly battle between these American families over who deserves the money, how much of it and why.
Aidan Salmon, who lost his father on 9/11, said of the letter to White House officials: “We hope our petition will show that the families of the victims of 9/11 care more about this issue than the few who have sued, and we hope to see the fair use of all blocked funds (for the benefit of the Afghan people).
