AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Clashes between security forces and the Taliban militants have ended in northwestern Badghis province, said reports on Wednesday.
According to reports, the clashes occurred between border forces and the Taliban rebels in Balamurghab district of the province.
Quoted by Radio Azadi, Mirwais Mirzakwal, spokesman for acting governor of Badghis, said the 705 Unit of Border Police, after receiving military support and additional troops, succeeded to defeat the Taliban in Murichaq area of Balamurghab which shares border with Turkmenistan. He said four rebels were killed and eight others wounded in the fight. He added that three troops were killed and three others wounded in the operation.
However, a border policeman, quoted by Radio Azadi, said on condition of anonymity that the clashes still continue and the security forces are mulling to conduct a large scale military operation in the district in a bid to clear the areas of Taliban rebels.
It is said that the clashes have pushed tens of families in Balamurghab to leave their houses in searched of safer place for living.
Balamurghab is one the most insecure districts of Badghis where security check points are often attacked by militants.
Badghis shares more than 200-kilometer border with Turkmenistan. Murchaq area of Balamurghab districts is located in a 147 kilometers from Qala-i-Naw—the central city the province.
