KABUL: Former president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai in a tweet called on the Taliban government to reopen girls’ secondary schools amid a national outcry.
Karzai tweeted: “The voice of the school girls in Paktia province for the reopening of their schools is the voice of all our girls and the desire of the Afghan nation. The voice of girls is the voice of dignity, progress and the rising of our beloved country.”
“I ask the caretaker Islamic Emirate government to open girls’ schools so that our homeland can be freed from the shackles of the ongoing uncertainty by relying on the powerful arms of our educated youth in a bid to achieve the desired progress and development in our homeland,” he wrote.
