Kabul: An evacuation flight carrying people from the Sikh minority in Afghanistan arrived in India Sunday.
Fifty-five Afghan Sikhs arrived in a special flight which landed at Delhi airport Sunday, as a part of the government’s efforts to evacuate the distressed minorities from Afghanistan.
This group, which includes 38 adults, 14 children and three babies, arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
Tribune media has written that in the meantime, four copies of the Sikh scriptures have been prevented from being released.
Earlier, a group of 60 Afghan Sikhs failed to leave Afghanistan with Hindu scriptures on 9/11.
Harjinder Singh Dehmi, head of the Sikh Places of Worship Management Organization (SGPC), said: “It was very disappointing that again the Afghan authorities did not allow the Sikh scriptures to be evacuated.”
He said that he shared this issue with the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India to contact the Taliban and facilitate the exit of the holy texts.
Afghanistan’s Sikh and Hindu minorities have been the targets of deadly attacks many times.
Insecurity and discrimination against this religious minority has made them leave Afghanistan.
