Kabul: Marks Putzel, the deputy head of the United Nations Mission in Afghanistan, said at the meeting of the Security Council of this organization that if the Taliban fail to protect the rights of Afghan citizens and engage constructively with the international community, this country will face an uncertain future.
Mr. Potzel made these remarks on Tuesday evening, at the United Nations Security Council, which held a meeting on the situation in Afghanistan.
He added: “If the Taliban cannot support the rights of all Afghans and have a constructive interaction with the international community, Afghanistan will face an uncertain future, including fragmentation, isolation, poverty and internal conflict.”
The head of United Nations mission in Afghanistan added that the international community may run out of patience with the Taliban, and they are indifferent to the rights of 50% of the Afghan population, who are women.
Potzel expressed concern that the patience of many members of the international community may run out regarding the strategy of engagement with the Taliban.
These statements of Mr. Potzel are expressed while fighting terrorism, ensuring the basic rights of citizens; including the rights of women and girls, and forming an inclusive government is among the world’s conditions for recognizing the Taliban.
However, the Taliban always emphasize that they have respected human rights within the framework of Islam and have formed an inclusive government.
