Kabul: The Islamic Emirate reacted to the new sanctions imposed by the US on their members, saying that such sanctions do not benefit Kabul and Washington.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, in response to the imposition of visa restrictions for the officials of this government by the United States, following the recent negotiations in Doha, emphasized that such decisions can have a negative effect on bilateral relations.
Abdul Qahar Balkhi, Taliban foreign ministry spokesman emphasized in a series of tweets that the US should take positive steps regarding the recent Doha negotiations and show in practice that it seeks constructive interaction with the Islamic Emirate.
Zabiullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesman also said that the imposition of these sanctions is a violation of the Doha agreement.
“We say to the US that the continuation of such sanctions neither benefits the US nor Afghanistan. It is also in contrast with the Doha agreement. We want these sanctions to be lifted and efforts should be made to normalize the relations between the two countries,” he said.
The US Department of State announced on Tuesday new restrictions on the “issuance of visas for the current or former Taliban members, members of non-state security groups, and other individuals believed to be responsible for, or complicit in, repressing women and girls in Afghanistan through restrictive policies and violence.”
The US foreign ministry has also asked other countries to take similar measures and emphasize the message that only a government in Afghanistan will be legitimate that represents all the people of Afghanistan and supports the human rights of individuals.
