Kabul: The Ministry of Public Health of the interim government of the Taliban announced that the polio vaccination campaign was launched in 22 provinces of Afghanistan, including Kabul, today.
This campaign continues for four consecutive days and its goal is to vaccinate about six million children under the age of five against polio.
According to the information of the Taliban Ministry of Health, this campaign covers 194 cities in the southern, southeastern, eastern, northern, and western and central provinces of the country, where the risk of spreading the polio virus is higher.
Previously, six rounds of nationwide campaign and one round of sub-campaign have been implemented in the country this year.
Since the beginning of this year, two positive cases of paralysis have been reported from Paktika and Konar provinces, which shows a significant decrease compared to four cases in 2021 and 56 cases in 2020.
Qalandarabad, the Minister of Health of the Interim Government appreciated the efforts of the polio eradication program in the fight against this disease and said that people should consider the health of their children and the efforts of the vaccination teams and vaccinate all children under the age of five in health centers.
It should be mentioned that Afghanistan and Pakistan are still the only two countries in the world that have not been freed from the polio virus.
