Global population surpasses 8 billion

AT

Kabul: According to the United Nations estimation, the world population exceeded 8 billion people on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

While announcing this news, United Nations experts consider it to be an “important turning point in human development” which reminds of the “shared collective responsibility to protect the planet” at the same time as the “COP 27” climate conference is held in Egypt.

Noting that the world’s population was only 2.5 billion in 1950, the United Nations attributed this “unprecedented growth” to the “gradual increase in life expectancy thanks to advances in health, nutrition, personal hygiene and medicine.”

However, experts believe that population growth also poses major challenges for the world’s poor countries.

On the other hand, while the earth had less than a billion populations by 1800, with the predictions of United Nations it will reach 10.4 billion people by the end of this century.

At the same time as the United Nations Climate Conference is held in Sharm el-Sheikh, the climate experts and activists always focus on the role of rich countries in endangering “planet Earth” due to the undeniable contribution of these countries in the emission of greenhouse gases.

United Nations experts at the Sharm el-Sheikh climate meeting “COP 27” once again reminded of the difficulties ahead for rich countries to reach an understanding with poor countries in order to take ambitious measures to significantly reduce greenhouse gases caused by human activities.

Meanwhile, the poor countries have asked to receive financial aid to deal with global warming and the consequences of climate change in order to effectively participate in this collective effort.

According to United Nations expert estimation, more than half of population growth by 2050 will occur in only 8 countries like, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines and Tanzania.

Therefore, it is said that by the end of this century, the three most populated cities in the world will be African, Lagos in Nigeria, Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, which will take the place of densely populated cities such as Shanghai and New York.
