Kabul: Ministry of information and culture officials have announced that the Voice of America (VOA) and Azadi radios (RFE), which were broadcasting on FM inside Afghanistan, have been stopped.
Abdulhaq Hammad, the head of broadcasting supervision of the Ministry of Information and Culture, tweeted that Radio Azadi broadcasts have been stopped in 13 provinces of Afghanistan.
Mr. Hammad added: “Radio Azadi, which had started its broadcasts after the American occupation, was stopped due to non-observance of journalistic principles and biased broadcastings.”
Moreover, Voice of America (VOA) has also reported that according to the new guidelines of the Ministry of Information and Culture, Voice of America radio broadcasts from inside Afghanistan will be stopped from December 1st.
Previously, the Voice of America television program, known as “Ashna TV”, was broadcast on Tolo, Tolo News, and Lamar TV channels, and before that for more or less a decade on Afghanistan’s national television, on March 27 of this year was stopped by the Taliban interim government.
Dari radio broadcasts of Voice of America started in October 1980 and Pashto radio broadcasts of Voice of America started in July 1982 for Afghanistan.
Radio Azadi broadcasts were officially started in Afghanistan in 2002 following US and allies invasion to Afghanistan.
According to Reporters without Borders after the Islamic Emirates took control of Afghanistan, 219 print, audio and visual media have stopped operating in the country, while during the previous Afghan government, there were 547 media operating in Afghanistan.
