AT-KABUL: Though fight against corruption was among top priorities of the national unity government (NUG), the Independent Joint Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee alleged that the incumbent government has no specific strategy in this regard.
The chief executive officer (CEO) of the committee, Rashed Behroz, said that government has no specific mechanism for fight against corruption. “The anti-corruption efforts made so far are not enough,” he added.
Behroz said that their findings show that there is no transparency in fight against corruption. “The judicial organizations who handle cases of corruption are also corrupt,” he added.
Behroz said that the government is yet to recover $178 million of Kabul Bank loans.
Ajmal Obaid Abidi, spokesman for President Ashraf Ghani, said that the NUG has a strong political will to fight against corruption. Abidi in an interview with Radio Azadi said that the spread of corruption is not acceptable to the government.
“The NUG since its establishment has spared no efforts to put end to corruption,” he added.
