Kabul: Continuous and long-term power outages in Afghanistan have been one of the main challenges of the Taliban administration in providing electricity services to citizens in the past year and a half.
In this year, more than any other year, the citizens of Afghanistan faced the problem of long-term power outages.
Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, as the most populous city in the country, has faced the problem of lack of electricity and long-term power outages more than other cities.
In the summer of this year, due to the dispute between the Taliban and the power exporting countries, Kabul’s electricity was faced a long-term outage during the day and night for about a month, and the citizens faced many problems.
With the beginning of the winter season, the problem of long-term power outages in Kabul started again, and for more than a month, citizens in the capital had less than two hours of electricity in twenty-four hours.
Residents of many marginal areas of Kabul did not have electricity for even one hour during the day and night and faced problems such as lack of water.
The city of Mazar-e-Sharif had a continuous power outage in the past weeks, and the officials of Breshna Company had announced that this outage was due to the repair of electric cables imported from Uzbekistan.
As well as Herat province in the southwest of Afghanistan is also facing long-term power outages during the day and night.
According to the announcement of the Bershna Directorate in Herat Province, Iran’s imported electricity to this province has decreased by 60% and Turkmenistan’s imported electricity has also been cut off.
Now it seems that the problem of lack of electricity and continuous power outages has become a permanent problem and challenge in Afghanistan.
In previous governments the main challenge to the electricity supply was for insurgent groups.
The groups used to blow up electricity poles at very strategic and key points by laying mines and causing the electricity of Kabul and more than ten other provinces of Afghanistan to be completely cut off until these poles were repaired.
Although the Breshna Company, says that it has extended the electricity import contract with Tajikistan to solve the electricity crisis in Afghanistan.
Last week, Breshna Company announced that it has extended the electricity import contract with Uzbekistan. After the extension of this contract, the power outage in Kabul has decreased to some extent.
In response to citizens’ criticisms of long-term power outages, Breshna Company always gives the excuse of technical problems.
On the other hand, in the past months when the electricity was continuously cut and the citizens had less than two hours of electricity in a day, the electricity bill for many houses is more than the previous months.
