Kabul: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Wednesday discussed Afghanistan’s social and economic situation during a meeting in Jeddah.
The OIC’s executive committee called on the Afghan interim government to review its ban on women in education and working in nongovernment organizations (NGOs). The committee decided to send a second delegation to Afghanistan to convey the OIC’s message on human and women’s rights to the interim government in Afghanistan.
OIC secretary general, Hossein Ebrahim Taha also referred to the Taliban’s decision to suspend the work of female employees in national and international non-governmental organizations, and emphasized that “this affects the humanitarian and relief activities carried out by a wide network.”
Hossein Taha again called for the revision of the Taliban and continuation of the humanitarian activities of international organizations in Afghanistan and stated that he had a positive dialogue with the authorities in Afghanistan, on the issues of girls’ education, the participation of women in public life, the fight against terrorism and inclusive government in Afghanistan.
