Health authorities in Herat province reported that more than 60 cases of gas poisoning and frostbite recorded during cold winter days.
Dr. Farhad Afzali, the head of the emergency department of the Herat regional hospital, says that since last week, 25 cases of frostbite have been recorded, and most of the people who referred were superficial and being discharged after treatment, but a number of them were admitted to the department for advanced treatments.
He added that 36 others were taken to the hospital due to inhaling toxic gas and were subsequently discharged.
Although he noted that so far no death case has been registered in this hospital that has been referred to the frostbite and gas poisoning department.
Every year, as the weather gets colder in Herat, the number of cases of gassing and frostbite increases in this province.
While ago, five people including a family of three and two workers in a poultry farm died due to faulty gas heater.
This is despite the fact that officials always ask people to observe safety precautions when consuming fuel.
