Kabul: The Afghan interim government has decided that military bases left by foreign forces will be gradually handed over to the Ministry of Industry and Trade in order to turn them into special economic zones.
Economic Deputy Office of the Prime Minister announced during the regular meeting of the Economic Commission that in order to convert the military bases left by foreign forces into special economic zones, gradually and according to the plan, it will be handed over to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and among the mentioned bases trial work has been started only in Kabul and Balkh provinces.
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) led by the United States had a large presence in Afghanistan, but after the conclusion of the Doha Agreement in February 2020 between the Taliban and the United States, all these forces left Afghanistan by August 30, 2021.
The extensive and long-term presence of these forces left dozens of military bases in different parts of Afghanistan and the Afghan authorities decided to use them as special economic zones.
