Kabul: Pakistan Human Rights Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada on Sunday said, the former ISI chief Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed wanted to bring the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) members back to the country, but his plan backfired, Pakistan based Dawn newspaper reported.
He said that: “At that time, General Faiz had suggested that they [TTP] should be brought into the mainstream but it backfired.”
According to Dawn, the minister’s statement came a day after PTI leader Shireen Mazari claimed that ex-army chief retired Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa wanted to “resettle” the TTP members in the country.
The flurry of claims and counterclaims from Pakistan’s politicians come at a time when there has been a substantial increase in terror activities across Pakistan; with an attack on the Karachi police chief’s office on Friday night being the latest incident.
