Kabul: A number of current and retired university professors have expressed concern about the economic challenges and the non-payment of their pensions in a meeting with former Afghan president, Hamid Karzai and requested the cooperation of national institutions in this regard.
During the meeting former president considered the education an important factor for the development and welfare of the country and repeated his call for reopening of high schools and universities for girls.
The retired employees have staged protests several times over delays in their payment of pensions but they have not yet received their salaries, and the de facto authorities continuously responded to their protests and requests by saying that they are working on a plan to solve this issue and getting direct order from Kandahar supreme council.
According to Ministry of Finance there are currently 150,000 retired employees registered in this ministry, of which 10,586 are women.
