AT Kabul:
United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan Richard Bennett said “he is closely monitoring the attack on the gathering aimed at awarding journalists at Tebyan Cultural Center in northern Mazar-e-Sharif province. The UN Special Rapporteur emphasized the need for increased security measures for journalists in Afghanistan”
UNAMA on Twitter condemned the “despicable attack on journalists” in Mazar-e Sharif, saying “Afghan reporters show immense courage and must be protected.”
The UN special rapporteur, Richard Bennett, referring to the blast, said:
“This attack on journalists is another blow to freedom of expression in Afghanistan and increased protection is necessary.”
U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West on twitter condemned the attack on Tebyan Culture Center he added “Deeply saddened by the terrorist attack on journalists at the Tabyan Cultural Centre. We condemn these continued, senseless acts of violence. We believe in the resilience of the Afghan people and their capacity to rebound.”
Raffaella Iodice, chargé d’affaires of the EU delegation in Afghanistan, on Twitter condemned the “attacks in Balkh province of the past days.”
“This violence needs to stop… Journalists risk their lives for their work and have to be protected,” she said. “They are Not a Target!”
