AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Abdullah Abdullah, during his trip to Kandahar on Sunday said that the past decade’s achievements will not be compromised for peace talks.
Abdullah introduced Humayun Azizi as the new governor of southern Kandahar province. Azizi was the minister of parliamentary affairs during former President Hamid Karzai’s tenure.
Abdullah stressed that national interests will not be compromised for peace.
On the same occasion, the Kandahar police chief, Gen. Abdul Raziq, called on the government not to compromise lives of Afghans and political figures under the pretext of the reconciliation process with anti-state rebel groups.
“I have obtained documents and videos as evidence which reveal that the government is compromising with the lives of Afghans while sitting in for peace talks in Qatar, UAE and other countries,” he said.
It comes as the Senate speaker, Fazl Hadi Muslimyar, said Saturday the he is not optimistic about the peace process brought to us by Pakistan. He insisted that he is personally not convinced with the reconciliation process which comes through Pakistan and the main motive behind such efforts are not ascertained.
The remarks come as a delegation of the High Peace Council (HPC) is expected to meet with representatives of the Taliban militants in Qatar.
The HPC officials said the other day that the Afghan delegation consists of 20 members who will attend the meeting and will have open discussions with Taliban representatives.
