Kabul: As the political debate in Türkiye intensifies ahead of presidential and parliamentary elections this year, the situation for refugees and asylum seekers in the country is becoming increasingly precarious.
The Turkish interior ministry recently announced in a statement that in the first three months of 2023, more than ten thousand migrants including Afghans were deported from the country.
According to Turkish authorities, 3,277 Afghan refugees were deported to Afghanistan since the beginning of this year.
According to the statement nearly 1,000 Afghan refugees have been deported within last four days.
“The deportation of Afghan refugees has increased on a daily basis. Hundreds of Afghan refugees are being deported from this country,” Tolo news quoted Mazullsh Sultan Oghlo, a journalist in Turkey.
According to the Turkish Daily Sabah newspaper, more than 55,502 Afghan refugees were deported to Afghanistan by 213 charter flights since 2022.
