Kabul: UNICEF Afghanistan has announced on their Facebook page that UNICEF intends to expand about 21,000 Community-Based Education (CBE) classes in all provinces of Afghanistan by the end of 2023.
Till now, a UNICEF-supported accelerated learning center has been operating in Bamyan. Female students (girls) can continue their education and complete two years in a condensed 1-year curriculum.
UNICEF supports 466 CBE classes in Bamyan through funds from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank South Asia, and European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid. About 9,400 children are getting an education in these classes.
To help the affected girls, some activists and organizations set up alternative schools as well as established online classes to teach secondary and high school subjects.
Although the authorities in Afghanistan have said that the ban on girls’ secondary education is “temporary” but it falls short of any positive expectation to create conditions to resolve the ban.
