AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Security forces have taken control of Nawa district of Ghazni province after nine years, said reports on Friday.
Bokhdi News Agency quoted a security official as saying that the Nawa district came under control of security forces after a military operation titled ‘Fatha’.
Requesting not to be named, the security official said district was cleared of militants on Friday morning. According to him, Fatha operation was carried out 13 days back in Ghazni and Zabul provinces.
The official has said that 270 militants were killed and 250 different types of mines were recovered and defused during the military operation.
A number of local officials in Ghazni recently said that Nawa district was under control of the Taliban rebels since their collapse in 2001.
Nawa is among strategic districts of the southern Ghazni province. It is said that security forces have recovered and destroyed 100 tons of explosives in Operation Fatha.
