KABUL – Taliban’s acting Minister of Defense, Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, has warned Taliban fighters against waging Jihad outside of Afghanistan, quoting their supreme leader.
Addressing Ministry of Defense’s commanders and fighters, Mujahid said if the supreme leader prevents the mujahideen from fighting abroad, their battle won’t be considered Jihad.
“This is the Amir’s order, and obedience is compulsory. If a person goes outside of Afghanistan with the goal of Jihad, that person’s Jihad is not called Jihad. If the Amir prevents the Mujahideen from going to battle and they still do it, this is war, not Jihad,” Mujahid said.
The acting Minister of Defense said that the members of the Islamic Emirate should not commit an act that harms the achievements of the Taliban government.
The remarks come after Islamabad said militants behind a spate of suicide attacks in Pakistan were being helped by “Afghan citizens” across the border, days after a deadly bombing claimed by the Islamic State group near the countries’ shared frontier.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stopped short of accusing Afghanistan’s Taliban government of knowingly allowing attacks from its soil, but he did say Pakistan militants were operating from “sanctuaries” in the neighbouring country.
This is as Taliban authorities insist they do not allow the country’s soil to be used by armed groups plotting against other nations.
