KABUL – Over 200 people have fallen victim to food poisoning in Zazai Maidan district of eastern Khost province on Sunday evening. The food poisoning outbreak unfolded after hundreds of Satkai villagers partook in a charitable meal.
The aftermath of this incident has led to a surge in hospital admissions, as those affected have been rushed to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment. Mustaghfar Garbaz, a spokesperson for the provincial police, confirmed that all victims have been admitted to hospitals and clinics for medical care. Conditions of some patients being have been labeled as critical. Among the afflicted are women and children.
Tahir Azimi, a resident of the affected village, asserted that nearly 400 people fell ill after consuming the charitable meal. His testimony underscores the widespread vulnerability of Afghan communities grappling with poverty, where the international community is rolling back on its commitment to protect millions of poor Afghans as humanitarian crisis strikes countrywide.
