KABUL – In a significant escalation of the conflict, Israel intensified its strikes on Gaza, targeting Hamas strongholds. These strikes come in the wake of horrifying revelations of atrocities committed by Hamas. Israel launched a fresh wave of missile attacks, aimed at locations controlled by Hamas in Gaza.
Tragically, more civilian victims of the Hamas attack on Saturday have come to light, particularly in southern Israel. Shockingly, many women and children were shot dead in their own homes. The death toll continues to rise on both sides of the conflict, with over 1,200 Israelis killed and 1,055 in Gaza.
Amidst this dire situation, the United States has taken action by providing additional military aid to Israel. Additionally, efforts are underway to open a humanitarian corridor out of Gaza to assist the affected population.
Within the sealed-off Gaza Strip, Palestinians are facing a desperate search for safety. Israeli airstrikes have left entire neighborhoods in ruins, hospitals are running low on essential supplies, and the region is on the brink of a power blackout, expected within hours. This further compounds the suffering caused by the conflict, which was ignited by a deadly mass incursion of Hamas militants.
The airstrikes have caused extensive damage, reducing entire city blocks to rubble in this small coastal enclave and burying an unknown number of people beneath the debris. The bombardment continues, even as militants brought an estimated 150 people into Gaza during the weekend’s fighting.
Israel has vowed to carry out unprecedented retaliation against the Hamas militant group that rules Gaza. This response comes after Hamas fighters breached the border fence on Saturday, resulting in the tragic loss of hundreds of Israeli lives. The situation remains highly volatile and deeply concerning.
