KABUL – Former Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) has labeled President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan as “the biggest mistake” the United States has made since the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
During a recent interview on CNN, hosted by Jake Tapper, Cheney was asked about the lessons learned from the U.S. experience that could be relevant to Israel’s current situation in its conflict with Hamas.
Cheney responded, “Well, I believe that perhaps the most significant error we made post-9/11 was President Biden’s decision to withdraw from Afghanistan in the manner it was executed. I think the most crucial lesson we’ve learned, and, frankly, the fact that the actions we took over the past 20 years prevented another major terrorist attack by Islamic extremists after 9/11, is a fact that should not be underestimated and should be remembered by us all.”
She further emphasized, “The lesson we have learned and must apply here is that these conflicts are interconnected.”
Liz Cheney’s father, Dick Cheney, was the Vice President when the United States initiated the war in Iraq, even though it was largely unrelated to the 9/11 attacks.
