Kabul: According to a report from IS’s “news agency” Amaq, the attacker detonated his suicide belt among a crowd of approximately 150 people. This blast, considered the largest in Afghanistan this year, occurred at a bank branch where Afghan government employees were waiting to collect their salaries.
Despite the overall improvement in Afghanistan’s security situation since the Taliban assumed complete control following the full withdrawal of foreign troops in 2021, there continue to be numerous bombings and suicide attacks in the country each year, often attributed to Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), the regional affiliate of the Islamic State group.
